Why You Cannot See Your Own Ads — and How to Check Whether They Are Running

You launch an advertising campaign, open Google, YouTube or a social platform, and cannot find your ad. It is reasonable to ask whether the campaign is running. Your own screen cannot settle that question. One person not seeing an ad does not prove that potential customers have not seen it. Equally, an agency should not say “everything is fine” without checking the account.

Why your ad may be invisible to you

Campaigns use conditions such as location, language, device, search term, audience and placement. A business owner is not necessarily a member of the intended customer group. For example, an ad may target visitors in Budva while the owner checks from another city in a different language.

Meeting the targeting conditions still does not guarantee an impression. Google runs an auction for each eligible search. The bid, quality of the ad and landing page, competition and context all affect whether the ad appears. A competitor may win one opportunity, while the next search has a different outcome. The budget also limits how much exposure a campaign can receive.

Check the schedule only if the campaign has one. Google Ads campaigns are generally eligible to run all day by default; that is not a promise to show the ad in every search. Display and video campaigns may also have frequency caps. Once a person reaches the configured cap, the campaign may stop showing them ads for the specified period.

Video placement matters too. A YouTube campaign may use several formats, so watching a few videos without seeing your ad tells you little about the whole campaign. A YouTube Premium member normally does not see standard ads before or during videos.

Separate appearance, delivery and business results

First, check what the ad looks like. For Google Search, use the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool with the relevant location and other settings. It lets you preview the result without creating ordinary ad impressions. A preview shows appearance under those conditions; it does not establish how many real people saw the ad during the reporting period.

Next, open the campaign report for the correct dates. Review campaign status, impressions, spend and reach or video views where those metrics apply. If impressions are truly zero, investigate approval, billing, budget, schedule and targeting. “You are not in the audience” is not enough to explain a campaign with no delivery.

Finally, measure the outcome that matters: visits, enquiries or sales, depending on the campaign goal. Impressions show that an ad was served, but they do not establish that it worked for the business. Compare the advertising report with website analytics and enquiries actually received. If real enquiries exist but no conversions appear in the report, check conversion tracking.

Avoid repeatedly searching for your own ad on Google. Google recommends its preview tool because ordinary searches can create impressions without clicks and distort performance measures. Instead, ask the campaign manager for a report showing dates, spend, impressions and results, together with an explanation of the next changes.

Rich online world helps businesses connect ad delivery with the journey from a click to an enquiry. For a practical review, prepare the campaign report, landing page address and business goal.
